From cabbage soup and Atkins to Paleo and Weight-watchers, weight loss programs and fad diets are very much part of our reality. By far the main reason why we go on a diet is to manage our body weight. And the results from WhyFive research’s ‘SA Body Image’ study show that going on a diet is a popular pastime.
64% of the total sample claim that they have gone on a diet – 75% of women and 48% of men. Black people (53%) are much less inclined to go on diet than white (73%) people. White females (87%) are the most likely to diet, and black males (41%) are the least likely to diet. People aged between 16 and 34 years (59%) are the least likely to diet than any other age group, and people aged over 50 (72%) are the most likely to diet.
