TRENDSPOTTING AT DESIGN INDABA 2013

In a first for South Africa, delegates at the annual Design Indaba conference will be exposed to innovative and information rich new marketing collateral through a collaborative effort between media and marketing site MarkLives.com, trend watching portal TREND., PocketMedia Solutions and Rapid Blue Digital.

Taking place from 27 February to 1 March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the Design Indaba conference, followed by the annual well-attended expo, is considered one of the world’s premier design events.

This year delegates will find the first ever Augmented Reality (AR) Unidentified Folding Object (UFO) Z-CARD in their delegate bags.

The UFO Z-CARD, a PocketMedia Solutions marketing application, consists of a UFO – that resembles a printed, paper Rubik Cube – joined to a compact Z-CARD. All this is topped off by augmented reality to allow Design Indaba delegates to interact digitally with the content offering.

The ‘WHAT IS TRENDING’ UFO provides the latest trends from the advertising and marketing industry as collated by Marklives.com, the fast growing advertising and marketing trade site known for its strong business journalism, and TREND.- a site that tracks consumer and trade trends in South Africa. It contains interesting facts about local brands, gadgets and phones, TV series and vehicles, and can be removed from the actual ‘TREND.SPOTTER Z-CARD’, which provides even more advertising and marketing trend information.

One side of the Z-CARD  also features an Augmented Reality (AR) enabled map ‘Bringing Gauteng to life with AR,’ a collaborative effort between PocketMedia Solutions and Rapid Blue Digital.

The Browse Augmented Reality (BAR) application utilised on the Z-CARD was locally developed by Rapid Blue Digital to be flexible and affordable. “It also allows for the linking out to social networks, micro sites and a click-to-call function,” says Brett Levy, Rapid Blue Digital managing director.

“Once the BAR application has been installed on an iPhone or Android Smartphone, Design Indaba visitors will be able to interact with the map and when scanned, numerous images including an aeroplane, train and bus are brought to life, via animation, right in front of your eyes,” says John Davis, managing director of PocketMedia Solutions.
